Some elements of a film become so iconic that they transcend the film itself. You don’t even have to see the film in order to know what it is.

And then, there are other items from those same films that are rightfully forgotten because they are ordinary and fairly forgettable. My friends, these are the kind of items you can find on eBay.

This week’s selection includes many of those, plus an amazing item from a James Cameron film not called Titanic and something sort of involving Jennifer Lawrence.

A Christmas Story

I have watched A Christmas Story so many times, yet I don’t remember this being in the film at all. If you buy this and use it, nobody will be able to immediately identify it with A Christmas Story. The leg lamp, if it still exists, would be the one you want.

Aeon Flux

I have no idea what a Bregna Carrier System is, but I am angry that this item reminded me that this movie exists. I never saw Aeon Flux, but I remember watching the horrible trailers for it when it first came out in 2005. Look it up. It makes Frances McDormand look like a cross between Galadriel and Peppermint Patty. And for some reason she is glowing. It’s hilarious.

Aliens

Do I want hand drawn sketches from one of the greatest action movies of all time? Do I want hand drawn sketches from one of those most insanely insane directors of all time? If it has Aliens and Ripleys, and no blue people, then I’ll take a peak.

The Beaver

I don’t know what this is. Also, I have never seen The Beaver. I just know it’s about Mel Gibson talking to a beaver hand puppet who is probably anti-Semitic, too. There is only one hand puppet I like, and his name is Franklin Delano Bluth.

Dazed and Confused

I can never get enough of “FAH Q,” or the fact that it was used by a future Oscar winner. I just wish they also sold “Soul Pole” as part of this package.

Jurassic Park

A lot of Jurassic Park props get sold on eBay on a daily basis. Jurassic Park is basically the dinosaur version of Titanic.

North by Northwest

Buy this item as a piece of nostalgia. Relive the good ol’ days when smoking was so ubiquitous that every inanimate object in the world could be turned into a lighter.

Pirates of the Caribbean 

Cannibal island skull? Here I thought Pirates of the Caribbean was a family movie.

Rio Lobo

Only $30 for a shot glass that John Wayne drank fake alcohol out of on the set of an old western? That is an outrage. An item this precious should be priceless. It would be a dream to drink (or fake drink) with The Duke.

Silver Linings Playbook

This is great. The scene where Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence go on a date at the diner is one of my favorite scenes in a film that is made up of great scenes, and it gets me every time when Jennifer Lawrence says, “it can still be a date if you order Raisin Bran.” But why did the user write “Jennifer Lawrence” in the title for this item? Come on! This was Bradley Cooper’s Raisin Bran! Also, this is the first and last time you will ever see a cereal box in a glass container like it is a diorama in the Museum of Natural History.

Ladies and gentlemen, presented above, I give you the creepiest item I have found on eBay to date.

I am sure there is worse out there, and that this just scratches the surface. I don’t even want to know what lays below that surface.

While the whole point of this piece is to venture into the abyss, buying a dead man’s hair just seems a tad too far. I didn’t even know hair could last that long. The government must have made some special technology for Elvis to make hair last forever and they are waiting to tell the rest of us common folk about it. While this likely isn’t the weirdest thing you can buy online, I think that anyone who buys it should probably be put on a CIA Watch List just in case.

Yet, I continue on, searching for eBay’s weirdest, creepiest, and sometimes coolest pieces of movie memorabilia. With the exception of the above item, this week was a surprisingly low key week. There were even a few people who were honest about the items they were selling. But that doesn’t mean that they still won’t try and overcharge you.

The Blues Brothers

I kind of want to own this. The part where Ray Charles hangs this sign up upside down is my favorite blind joke in any movie I’ve ever seen.

Braveheart

Hopefully, it comes with a certificate notifying you that this costume, like everything else in “Braveheart,” is probably historically inaccurate.

Demolition Man

AMC played “Demolition Man” this past weekend. I only saw part of it and the sound wasn’t on, but somehow that made it even better. First, it’s Stallone vs. Snipes. Second, it begins with Stallone being unfrozen in the future to take down a bad guy. I now know exactly what “Austin Powers” was making fun of.

Inglourious Basterds

This fake brand of cigarettes is unique to the Tarantino universe, and has been featured in many of his films. I feel like taking this pack out will rip some hole in the Tarantino Universe space-time continuum. This new universe could have dire consequences. Hitler wasn’t murdered by the Bear Jew. Marsellus Wallace didn’t get medieval on their asses. “Death Proof” was actually good. Okay, I could live with the last one.

Rocky

They circled the little rips. That is just wonderful. Seriously. Nobody could have done that on their own to replicate it. I also enjoy that they indicate that the photo is ripped, yet still expect somebody to pay $990 for it. At least they’re honest about it. Finally, somebody on eBay has some integrity.

Rounders

I love that the different chips cost different prices. The $100 poker chip is more expensive than the $25 poker chip. Seriously, I love that. Yet another person on eBay actually tries to display some degree of integrity.

Saw 3D

“ONE OF A KIND!!” That is where it all went wrong. Sure, it’s one of a kind as in, it’s the only one of Hoffman’s cell phones that exists. But come on, it’s not even a cool phone. It’s a flip phone. James Dean’s red jacket from “Rebel Without a Cause” is one of a kind. Even Gordon Gekko’ gigantic cell phone from “Wall Street” is cooler than this. A flip phone is now something that drug dealers use.

Spider-Man

There’s nothing wrong with selling the lab coat of a minor character. But it seems kind of, well, odd to sell it with the accompanying image of that man being murdered. Just a thought.

Straight to Hell

Shut up everybody! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! You’re telling me there is a movie that was made where Joe Strummer, Dennis Hopper, Jim Jarmusch, and Elvis Costello play bank robbers? Take your fake money back, I’m going to watch this right now.

The Ten Commandments

I think this is the best opportunity that I will get to post my favorite joke from “History of the World: Part I.”

Of all of the stock photos involving money that I found, this one is by far the best.

In maybe the funniest scam of the century, you can use your real money to buy fake money on the Internet. Of course, the only stipulation is that said fake money must have been used in a movie. You can buy that fake money, put it under your mattress for a few years, wait for that movie to suddenly become a classic, and then sell it for even more money. Hey, it sounds more legitimate than those cash for gold commercials. Sorry, I just don’t trust any old dude in a cowboy hat who tries to sell me things.

During my search on eBay this week, I found many different currencies from many different countries, some real and some made up. There’s all of that as well as your weekly dose of weirdness, inaccuracies, and general confusion. Plus, you will also find what doesn’t technically count as a movie prop, but is still one of the coolest things I have ever found on eBay.

3000 Miles to Graceland

In “3000 Miles to Graceland,” Kurt Russell, Kevin Costner, and Christian Slater dress up as Elvis impersonators and try to rob a casino. Really? This is the best you could do in terms of props? Come on, Vegas is a city that is basically made up of tacky looking movie sets.

Coming to America

If Eddie Murphy had continued to do movies like “Coming to America” for the rest of his career, then there is a chance that his face could have ended up on real money.

Elysium

You know that thing I said about how some of this fake currency could become more valuable if you wait for the film to become a classic? Yeah, that probably doesn’t apply to “Elysium.” I would rather use that $3.95 for a journey to find out the identity of whoever told Jodie Foster that her accent in this film was acceptable.

Goodfellas

While this technically is not a prop, it is definitely one of the coolest items I have ever seen on eBay. I really hope there are handwritten notes in the script about whether or not Joe Pesci was dropping enough f-bombs in a given scene. I think I would like this script. One writer goes one way, the other writer goes the other way, and this guy’s sayin’ “whataya want from me?”

Inglourious Basterds

There’s nothing wrong with selling the cards from “Inglourious Basterds.” It’s a fairly legendary scene to those who care. However, the seller decided that they had to put Brad Pitt’s name in the title, despite the fact that Brad Pitt is not in this scene at all. It’s similar to the very first trailers for “Basterds” which sold it as a Brad Pitt film despite the fact that he’s barely in it. Moral of the story: Brad Pitt sells stuff.

Jaws: The Revenge

This looks less like a shark tooth and more like something a third grader made in art class. Then again, people who watch “Jaws: The Revenge” probably aren’t looking for stark realism.

RoboCop (2014)

Good, I was looking for another chance to rant about the “RoboCop” remake. This prop precisely defines everything that was wrong with that movie: in a future where half-cyborgs can look through old videos and Google stuff by putting on a helmet, people still use gigantic cameras. This movie had absolutely no idea what year it was supposed to take place in.

Spider-Man 2 & 3

So, this is what $1,999 worth of Chuck E. Cheese’s tokens looks like.

The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas

It would be really funny if this slot machine contained all of the money that was wasted making “Viva Rock Vegas.”  In terms of Vegas props, it is a bit better than a fake $100 bill.

Unidentified

I am not sure what film this comes from. However, I one day hope we live in a world where Teddy Roosevelt gets to be on some form of money. Seriously, that dude was amazing. He got shot while giving a speech and then he kept delivering that speech even though he, you know, had a bullet inside him. It makes me feel bad for that time I cancelled my plans because my toe hurt.

According to scientists, about 95% of the world’s ocean remains unexplored. One could say the same about eBay.

Today is a day that will live in infamy. It is the day that the Velociraptor Cage from “Jurassic Park,” which influenced this post, was no longer listed on eBay. It’s whereabouts, and the final price it was sold for, will remain shrouded in history.

But you know what they say: if you love something set it free. So from that we move on to this week’s selection of memorabilia. Folks, this week did not disappoint. In fact, I found so many that I will have to save them for another post.

I learned a lot from this week’s selection. Mainly that there are a lot of “Titanic” props on eBay. Enough so that being a “Titanic Prop Dealer” (as seen in the certificate above) is an actual job title that someone can have. Given what an epic film that is, I believe there will be no shortage of props until the day somebody finally begins selling off chunks of the actual boat. Seriously, the “Titanic” prop business is just about big enough that it could be listed on the NASDAQ. Also, let me just note that I have absolutely no idea what can get you listed on the NASDAQ; I just heard Walter White say this on “Breaking Bad” once and it sounded cool.

This is consumerism at its finest: a fake toy in a movie launches comic books and costumes. And then you can buy all of that stuff in real life. What I am really trying to say is I love that scene where Arnold says “nice doggie” to a reindeer before he punches it in the face.

Magnolia

This would make a great addition to your collection of plague toys that you bring out during that part of the Passover Seder. And yes, I am aware that only about three people understand what I am talking about.

Manhattan

I have no intention on giving my opinion about the Woody Allen molestation scandal. I wish they would just resolve the rest of it privately, because a lot of innocent people have gotten hurt from it. Anyway, I am just glad that they didn’t sell this as “a special item that was touched by an accused child molester!”

 The Terminator

This is really cool and all. It comes from a classic and it replicates a piece of technology that doesn’t really exist anymore. But if you want me to buy your product, you might want to spell the name of the film correctly. Unless of course, there is a low budget Norwegian knockoff called “Terminater.” And if such a film exists, I should probably drop everything and watch it right now.

I was distracted enough by the insanity (boobs, orgies, cocaine, more cocaine) of “The Wolf of Wall Street” that it didn’t even occur to me to pay close attention to the set design. Based on this painting, brokers have really terrible taste in art. This looks more like something a freshman girl would probably hang up in her dorm room.

Another week, and no disappointments this time. My eBay Screenshots folder gets bigger and weirder by the day. This time, I also spent some time exploring what costumes the site had to offer. As always, people will buy just about anything if it means they own a piece of movie history, no matter how bad the prop or the movie itself.

This week, I left with even more questions than answers. Who finds these props? Who likes “Daredevil”? Who remembers “Syriana”? Perhaps these questions can be answered as I venture further down the rabbit hole:

I am still convinced that “Daredevil” has a dedicated fan base out there, which includes my fifth grade self. I plan on looking at all the bidders to find out exactly who all of these people are.

This is one of my two favorites from this week’s batch (the other one is down towards the bottom). If you haven’t seen “Galaxy Quest,” then you’re missing out on an overlooked classic that might actually make you like Tim Allen, but just for 90 minutes.

Silver Linings Playbook

Cool, let’s exploit a bipolar character for even more money! In all seriousness, I love “Silver Linings Playbook,” and selling this shirt is a smart choice. There is a big potential market in both people who want Bradley Cooper, and people who want to be Bradley Cooper. Either one of these two camps would probably buy this.

Spider-Man

For that special somebody who really wants to own a piece of Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man,
but only has $1,499 left in their bank account.

I still haven’t seen “Spider-Man 3″ yet, so I unfortunately can’t make fun of it in any sort of specific way. Here is yet another minor prop from a major movie that you can blow thousands of dollars on. Seriously, how do we know that this was actually used in “Spider-Man 3″? Are there drug-sniffing dogs that can pick up on Tobey Maguire smell? If not, they should be invented.

Syriana

Hey, remember that quasi-mediocre George Clooney political thriller from 2005? Of course you don’t! Well, here is something to remember it by: a handheld camera they used in the movie that isn’t even cool enough or old enough to be considered vintage.  

Thanks to this tweet, I was alerted to the existence of the actual velociraptor cage from “Jurassic Park” (pictured above), which is being sold on eBay for about $100,000. This is good if you have a serious velociraptor/Jeff Goldblum problem, but even better if you are a film buff with way too much cash to spend.

So, this led me to tumble down the movie memorabilia section wormhole on eBay. As you might expect, much of the stuff on there is centered on “Star Wars” and other sci-fi and horror classics. But then, there is some stuff that is just too odd to explain. They cost the kind of money that only Jordan Belfort and Nicolas Cage would be willing to spend.

What I am about to show you barely scratches the surface. Today, I introduce the first part of a new weekly roundup of the most awesome, weirdest, and inexplicable movie memorabilia you can find on eBay. The qualifications: it must be an actual prop or costume from a film. So keep your damn Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle lunch boxes to yourself.

Death Proof

Pretty cool, despite being from Quentin Tarantino’s weakest film. Yes girls, please talk about how you are going to get reveng for another 20 minutes and then never do it. Anyway, I guess it costs $39,900 to make you forget that your favorite director recently crushed all your hopes and dreams.

50 First Dates

Is somebody really THAT desperate to own a piece of “50 First Dates” that they need to shell out this much money for an American flag that appears in maybe one shot? No disrespect to the American flag, but hanging a movie prop flag outside your house is just a kind of patriotism that I will never understand. And it’s not even a cool from “Saving Private Ryan” or something.

The Flinstones in Viva Rock Vegas

I am learning so many things today! Alan Cumming played a singer named Mick Jagged in a mediocre Flinstones movie! I don’t get it. Is it a pun on Mick Jagger’s name? Does “Jagged” have something to do with prehistoric times? Seriously, who the hell wrote “Viva Rock Vegas”? “60 Minutes” will have a report tomorrow.

The Untouchables

Own a piece of history from the time in history that Kevin Costner was considered a promising young actor.

The Sandlot 2

Wait, there was a sequel to “The Sandlot”? Somebody tried to replicate a perfect movie? Excuse me while I try and salvage the remains of my childhood.

Titanic

I have no idea what this thing is supposed to be, but I am not surprised that somebody would be that desperate to own a piece of “Titanic” that they would buy what looks like metal bubble wrap.

Breaking In*

Some bored housewife with way too much money to spend finally gets to spend some quality time living out her crazy Christian Slater obsession. I hope the $1,800 goes directly to Slater, as he could probably use the money at this point.

Hook

I have never seen “Hook” (oops). However, I would pay a reasonable amount of money (Note: $14,920 isn’t exactly reasonable) to have a picture of Pirate Dustin Hoffman hanging up in my house.

Valkyrie

I know that Colonel von Stauffenberg in balcony tried to revolt against Hitler. Still, do you really want to own a uniform from a time in German history that, well, even Germany isn’t proud of? I hope to never meet the person who answers “yes” to that question.

Knight and Day

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Somebody might actually try and buy a prop from “Knight and Day.”

*”Breaking In” is a TV show and not a movie. However, I will make a rare exception for this one, because life is short and it isn’t very often that you find an oil painting of Christian Slater posing with a doberman.
